Did Habib Beye save Sam Allardyce’s job? I certainly think so as if we drew here then I certainly couldn’t see us going to Fulham and Winning. A game which should of been a comfortable win if we played the same as we did against Birmingham, but this is Newcastle we are talking about we don’t do easy, never have and never will. The tactics again we’re rubbish, for the first 25 mins it was long ball football, (even Lawro has spotted it, we are the New Bolton), then for next 20 mins to half time we were on top thanks to James Milner who was again excellent despite being out of position again and Charles N’Zogbia who every time he delivered a ball from WIDE areas caused huge problems. Newcastle we’re awful second half it seemed that we are content with the point as our attacking instinct from the first half who been swallowed up by Fat Sam. There is no pattern at all to our play if you do play in a certain pattern it gives players more confidence and is a hell lot easy to bring players into the team. Today I counted Alan Smith in 4 different positions; I couldn’t tell whether Martins was playing down the wing or upfront with Viduka after he came on. Everything comes down the left, we have loads of left sided players and he goes and plays our only right sided midfielder there, playing with width stretches teams, gives players more options on the ball and is a lot harder to play against and is more threatening Charles N’Zogbia caused all kinds of problems with his balls and one of them made us win our penalty.
Allardyce as long as he plays these tactics, team selections and formations will never win the fan’s over, he is too stubborn and comes across as being very arrogant. He even admits we haven’t got the players to play his 4-3-3 system so why FUCKING PLAY IT???
Birmingham got themselves in front after more bad defending from David Rozehnal who through every game I see him looks more and more like Boumsong in the way he defends, firstly played another long ball which again went straight to Birmingham they in turn lumped it back with Rozehnal ball watching Cameron Jerome latched on it avoided a pathetic challenge from Rozehnal go around Shay Given and put the ball into an empty net. The next 20 mins we’re what I would normally see watching the falcon’s play, long kicking, Rozehnal the main culprit to Alan Smith and Martins (who was shocking again) without any impact. Bringing Viduka on for the injured Butt seemed to motivate Newcastle who started to play some football with James Milner and Charles N’Zogbia (both out of position) ripping Birmingham’s right hand side apart, delivering dangerous balls and causing problems (if only we could see them in their proper positions then we might start playing some entertaining football) with the penalty coming from one. It looked harsh at first but the defender did go through Martins some referee’s give them some don’t. Martins nervously dispatched the penalty. Newcastle dominated till half time with Martins guilty of missing a sitter along with Milner and then he hit the bar with a fantastic effort. It seemed a matter of when and not if the next goal would come for Newcastle, if they played like this second half.
Birmingham dominated the first 15/20 mins of the 2nd half, they passed the ball well and we simply couldn’t get it back and Sebastian Larsson who score their winner v Spurs missing a great opportunity. The fans who we’re great again stuck by the team knowing they we’re play shit, tried to lift the team who then saw James Milner go close and Martins force Taylor into a save, Birmingham still looked the most dangerous on the break though. Then Habib Beye started a great run for which he won a corner. Emre who earlier saw his free-kick stopped by the hand of Jerome which should have resulted in a penalty, stepped up for the Beye to header in to the relief of the home and crowd and especially Sam Allardyce in stoppage time. Beye has been our best player over the last few weeks with him the only player coming out of the Liverpool debacle with any credit and his performance against Arsenal has shown him to be a essential player in the side.
I’m very happy with the result, but the performance doesn’t give me any confidence as I do not see us going to Fulham and winning.
MOM: James Milner – This guy is the best outlet we’ve got he can take people on but always has to cut in onto his right foot, only if a certain someone played him correctly then we would see the real Jimmy.
